Mighty Mississippi Mighty Mississippi, roll my troubles away Mighty Mississippi, roll my troubles away You know I come from the North so I don’t know why Your muddy water changes with clouds in the sky Mighty Mississippi, roll my troubles away Mississippi woman, sure like the way that you smile Mississippi woman, sure like the way that you smile I am a stranger ‘round here, but I like your style I’ll forget where I’m going and stay here for awhile Mississippi woman, sure like the way that you smile All along the river, I can see where they stood All along the river, I can see where they stood You know the guns on the hill, they tell the tale of their strife Those soldiers in grey (blue) I know they laid down their lives All along the river, I can see where they stood Mighty Mississippi, roll my troubles away…….

The Engine 04:19
The Engine I came out from Oregon, in the freezing cold and rain. Played on the streets of New York, for dollar bills and change. Before I met you, woman, I had my ups and downs If you ain’t in my corner then I won’t be coming around You better listen—you’re not hearing me at all. We been driving down the wrong street, and the engine’s about to stall. You question my integrity, you say I got a hot-head. But I’m a man who speaks his mind when something needs to be said. I won’t be dis-respected, won’t stay on the side-line. Now you take care of your business let me take care of mine. You better listen—you’re not hearing me at all. We’ve been driving down the wrong street, and the engine’s about to stall. Now it’s a real bad situation. A dirty rotten shame. If we can’t work it out now, we’ll be the ones to blame. You keep on passing judgement, on all I say and do. “Let the one without sin cast the first stone”, you know those words ring true. You better listen—you’re not hearing me at all. We’ve been driving down the wrong street, and the engine’s about to stall.

Mary Ann's 04:43
Mary Ann’s gonna hike along the trail a mile we’re gonna watch that waterfall awhile gonna row a boat out to the cove were gonna warm up by the old wood stove When we finally get to stay at Mary Ann’s, Mary Ann’s when we finally get to stay….at Mary Ann’s we’ll finally get some needed rest gonna function at our very best gonna feel the grass between our toes not watch it grow from a car window When we finally get to stay at Mary Ann’s, Mary Ann’s when we finally get to stay….at Mary Ann’s Ocean meets the river, river meets the creek. We’re goin’ to the country, to feel it on our feet. Gonna leave it all in the city, turning ‘round and ‘round. Lord knows one day these buildings could all come tumbling down, down, down, down. gonna find the finest fishing hole gonna climb the mountain in our soul. gonna wear the finest old blue jeans with warmth and gladness in the seams. When we finally get to stay at Mary Ann’s, Mary Ann’s when we finally get to stay….at Mary Ann’s

Yesterday is Gone I don’t want to talk about it. It’s just one of those things. More trouble and heartache Is all that it could bring. Chorus: So let’s think about our future and leave bygones alone. Let’s talk about tomorrow— Yesterday Is Gone. I know just how you feel. when all is said and done, you said that there was nothing, that our love can’t overcome. Chorus I know you can’t forget the past, although it’s been so long. Y’know all I want to do is love you from now on. Chorus There’s a point to what you say. I’ll admit some things are true, but what’s that got to do with you lovin’ me and me lovin’ you? Chorus Yesterday is Gone…

Leave a Light on For Me I can see no one’s home, from the street outside. You’ve been gone now for three days…there’s no end in sight. My hope is like a candle, burning with a glow. I keep it safe inside me. I never let it go. Chorus: I’m asking for forgiveness—I’ve said all I can say. We’ve been together so long, don’t let it slip away. Leave a Light on for Me. Leave a light on for me. Ocean of blue in your eyes dear, for a thousand miles. You keep in mind the blessings, you keep in mind the trials. Your face is in a picture, hanging on my wall. I’m sending out this prayer to you—I hope you hear my call. Chorus I’m looking out our window-the moon is hanging low. The future is just a mystery that we don’t have to know. It’s time to go to sleep now but somewhere in the night, the candle we lit together must be shining bright. Chorus

Tonite I’ll be Staying Here with You - B. Dylan Throw my ticket out the window Throw my suitcase out there too. Throw my troubles out the door, I don’t need them anymore ‘cause Tonight, I’ll Be Staying Here With You. I should have left this town this morning but it was more than I could do. Oh your love comes on so strong, and I’ve waited all day long for Tonight, I’ll Be Staying Here With You Is it really any wonder? The love that a stranger might receive? You cast your spell, and I went under. I find it so difficult to leave. I can hear that train whistle blowing. I see that Station-Master too. If there’s a poor boy on the street, then let him have my seat, ‘cause Tonight, I’ll Be Staying Here With You.

This Song I Have For You Chorus: Gonna keep on gonna keep on playin’ a song. This song for you. That’s what I’m gonna do. Repeat… Bridge: And some people say that it’s obsolete. There’s someone with a guitar at the end of every street. I know sometimes it’s bitter but I try to make it sweet. This Song I have for You. This song I have for you. Sometimes I get lonely-when I wake up in the morning, and you’re not there. I get down on my knees. Think about the things I’ve got, and say a prayer. Just a prayer to say “thank you”, for the times you pulled me up, and set me right. For the song you give to me-- I can play it all day long, and through the night. Chorus Bridge Etc……

Sleep With One Eye Open Well I just found out today, the little game you play, while I’ve been sleeping all my time away. You been stepping out, they say, between midnight and day, so I’m going to Sleep with One Eye Open from now on. Chorus: From now on—all night long. You won’t have a chance to treat your daddy wrong. You been steppin’ out, they say, between midnight and day, so I’m going to sleep with one eye open from now on. Now there’s a place not far away—about a mile, I’d say, and I understand that’s where you spend your time. Well baby I’ve got news for you: your little game is thru. From now on baby you’d better tow the line. Chorus Well you thought you were being smart--Breakin’ my big old heart.

Waiting for Snow To Come Up this high above, the snowflakes blow just how they will. They’re just starting to gather, upon my windowsill. There’s a person all bundled up, about a block away. If I could ask him where he’s goin’ I wonder what he’d say? And now the gray is moving in, the blue skies on the run. Chorus: And I’m looking out this hotel window waiting for snow to come. Somewhere in Cleveland, waiting for snow to come. It’s been the warmest winter around these parts they say. There hasn’t been a snow yet, but one might be on the way. Want someone to understand the thoughts that are in my mind. I want someone to see the picture that I’ll leave behind. But I should know nobody wins a race before they’ve run. Chorus A flag blows in the plaza but I don’t know what it’s for. I’ve waited for awhile now, I guess I’ll wait some more. There’s some kind of show down there, I guess I ought to go. There’s so many things I think that I’m supposed to know. Instead most of the time I find, I’m just blind, deaf, and dumb. And I’m looking out this hotel window waiting for snow to come. Somewhere in Cleveland, waiting for snow to come. Here by this window, waiting for snow to come.

When you got a Good Friend When you got a good friend, have her stay right by your side. (Repeat) Spend all of your spare time, just to keep her satisfied. I mis-treated my baby. I can’t see no reason why. (Repeat) Every-time I think about it— I just hang my head and cry. Well I may be…. Well I may be right or wrong. (Repeat) Keep your friends close by and your enemies won’t do you harm. When you got a good friend, have her stay right by your side. (Repeat) Spend all of your spare time, just to keep her satisfied.

released April 6, 2012

“In the winter of 2010, I brought the members of my ace New York City group, the Kings County Band, up north to record some music in a barn where I have had the pleasure of performing nearly every Saturday night for the last 5 years: Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. We were joined by the cream of Woodstock’s crop of players which includes Larry Campbell, Donald Fagen, Bruce Katz, Jim Weider, and Levon Helm. I feel fortunate to live here, and to know and play with these people, a few of whom are giants of American music.
In addition, guitarist Scott Sharrard, my band-mate and colleague from the Gregg Allman Band, contributed some blazing guitar work.
The resulting CD, entitled “Rivers, Blues, and Other People”, is mostly a collection of my songs that we have been playing live during the last 5 to 6 years, plus a few good “covers” done in our own, soulful way. It is the best recording I have ever had the privilege of putting my name on.”
